This week I haven't posted because I am very busy. Today I start moving to a new house and it's hectic. Worse than I ever thought it would be. I want to apologize because the moving will probably take all weekend and I wont be able to post until next wee.
Nevertheless, I might find some time to post, so stay tuned and thank you for reading my posts.
Yours always,
Mayya.
This will be a blog where, every week, I will try to inspire people to not give up in life, or to at least give them something to ponder on for the rest of the week. I want it to be something powerful and touching, because not only am I trying to help others, but also myself.

Princess Charming
Does anyone remember the first scenes in the old princess movies? For the most part, it portrayed a beautiful princess wishing for her Prince Charming to come for her and make her live happily ever after. Then the prince would come at the end, and save her life, and sweep her off her feet and kiss her and they would live happily ever after, just like she always dreamed.
That made the Prince the main character, because even if the story is named after the princess, Prince Charming was the hero. He always saved the day.
That says a lot about women in yesterday's society, and how they were dependent on men to make them happy and have a good life.
Yet today I see a shift in the way the stories are written, as well as a shift in how the characters behave and what they represent.
Now the princess is no longer the damsel in distress waiting for a guy to make her dreams come true, but a strong woman with big dreams. The best thing is that now, the princess doesn't sit down to wait for some miracle to happen, but she actually takes charge of the situation and fights for what she wants. The character of Prince Charming no longer steals the protagonist role from the princess, he's just a catalyst for her dreams to come true, making the princess Princess Charming.
Even better yet is to notice how this is reflecting today's society, because we now have plenty of Princesses Charming among us, and what is a better example of that than single moms. They act like both mom and dad for their children, and they work and get ahead in life and get their children ahead also. Because they don't sit beside a wishing well singing until a prince comes their way, but take action, and handle everything on their own.
That is today's woman. The one that doesn't depend on anyone. The one who takes matters into her own hands. The one that saves the day; always. The one that takes the protagonist role in her life and doesn't let anyone take it away.
Today's women can be called Princesses Charming, and there is no one who can deny it. Because we are seeing it happen all over the world as women become presidents, and secretary of state, and ambassadors, and powerful leaders. And no man can take it away from them, because they don't depend on men anymore. We've demonstrated that we are capable of doing great things on our own, and that's showing in the fairy tales we read to kids at night. There is no doubt to me that there is no longer a Prince, but a Princess Charming coming to save the day.

When I meet Mr. President
Sorry for not posting lately, but I've been very busy with schoolwork. I have posts in mind and in the agenda, just waiting for the right time to be uploaded. But today, I want to deviate from what I would usually write about to share one of the best experiences I've had in my entire life and the story of how it came to be.
Not many people know this, but I am not North American, I came to the U.S.A in pursuit of my dreams, and so, this election is very important to me, because my future, and everything I've worked so hard to achieve might crumble to the ground if the wrong person gets elected president. Anyways, I've always admired President Barack Obama, because not only is he in the history books for being the first African-American President of the United States, but also because he is the Noble Peace Prize winner.
That's what really got me wishing to meet him, because I dream of working for the United Nations, and not everyone gets a Nobel for proposing global nuclear disarmament, starting in America. And after all, his getting elected as president changed world history forever.
Today, I finally got my wish realized (although not completely), because Mr. President came to my city and thanks to my History teacher I could go see him.
I woke up at 2:30 AM and stood in line for five hours. There, I met five college students and one teacher that certainly opened my eyes to the big picture of this election season. They are people with the same hopes and dreams I have, and they are not willing to give those dreams up, because those are their American Dreams, and according to legend, everyone deserves that.
When the time came for the president to speak, everyone cheered, and while he spoke, many people around me cried. That made my heart soften and reach out to those people that were filled with admiration for the president, but that at the same time are desperately seeking out for someone who will really represent them; the middle class.
For my part, I only wish I could have spoken with him or seen him up closer, but, hey, it's better that seeing him through a TV screen, and I know someday I will meet with him one on one. And I still got the experience of being in a political rally.
As long as he is president, my dreams will remain a certain future.

Who am I, really...!
Since this is my very first post, I would like to introduce myself to anyone who stumbles upon this site. Maybe I should start with a quote or something fancy, but that's just not me.
Who am I? Really. I think this poem I wrote for my English class at the beginning of this year pretty much describes my essence, and if it doesn't, you'll get to know me better through my posts.
Mayya
Passionate, vigilant, honest, brave.
Daughter of the waves and the breeze that blows softly on a hot Summer day.
Lover of Nature; the river and the clouds.
Who feels outrage at inequalities,
Passion for justice; and sorrow for lost souls.
Who needs the acceptance of no one,
The pride of her family;
And the freedom to be; to fly.
Who gives trust, loyalty, support; to anyone who needs it.
Stranger or not.
Who fears corruption and war.
Who is fighting to make a change.
Resident of the Earth.
Mayya.
